HAVE YOUR SAY
Half-time in extra-time and just 15 minutes stand between these two sides and the dreaded penalty shootout…
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
104. Belotti is inexplicably caught offside.
Perhaps he is the perfect like-for-like replacement for Immobile.
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
102. Donnarumma is keeping Italy alive, but not necessarily with the assured pair of hands for which he’s become known.
The goalkeeper is off his line again with a questionable punch, and Spain almost make him pay. Marcos Llorente manages to get a shot in as the ball bounces around but it’s blocked by Chiellini.
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
100. Italy’s energy and inventiveness has gone out of the game now, and they’re purely trying to stay in the contest to take it to penalties.
It’s no longer pretty but it’s almost as compelling to watch.
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
98. Ooof! Olmo catches everyone out by directing his free-kick from the left at goal – everyone, that is, except Donnarumma.
The Italy goalkeeper stays alert to push out, but that sets up some goalmouth pinball, which the Azzurri eventually manage to clear.
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
97. Dani Olmo just keeps going. Even after 100 minutes of football, the forward still has pace and energy to burn.
It’s too much for Italian substitute Rafael Toloi, who is sent one way and then the other before bringing down his marker, earning him a yellow card.
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
95. Some textbook Busquets antics there as he leans into Belotti as they challenge for an aerial ball, and allows his opponent to fall heavily to the floor.
Harry Kane would be proud.
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
94. In case you need reminding, this is Spain’s sixth match at Euro 2020, and they’ve only won one of those inside 90 minutes.
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
92. A coming together on the far touchline has both Alba and Berardi grimacing and hobbling away.
Another half hour of draining football, full of niggling fouls and muscle injuries would certainly be of interest to England if they can win tomorrow.

ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
91. Hold on to your hats, here we go again.
“I’ve not enjoyed a game as football as much as this for years,” admits Danny Murphy on co-commentary – and for once I believe him.

PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!
EXTRA-TIME IS UNDER WAY! -
FT: ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
And breathe.
What a game. Wembley has been lit up this evening by a brilliant game of football that sees two excellent teams level at the end of 90 minutes after both scored lovely second-half goals.
Italy were in the box seat after Federico Chiesa’s exquisite curler but Spain hit back through substitute Alvaro Morata 10 minutes from time.

NINETY MINUTES COMES TO AN END!

ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
90. Oh, was that a hand from Chiellini?
The ball brushes the arm of the Italian captain after he slides into win a challenge just inside his own area. The Spain players in the vicinity scream for a penalty but Felix Brych is quick to wave them away.
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
89. One goal will win it now.
One mistake. One moment of magic.
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
87. Morata gets into the box, and pictures the headlines.
He shifts play on to his left foot and…
…runs the ball beyond the byline.
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
85. Nicola Barrella and Lorenzo Insigne – Italy’s goalscoring heroes against Belgium – are the men replaced, and on come Manuel Locatelli and Andrea Belotti.
Meanwhile, Marcos Llorente replaces Cesar Azpilicueta.
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
84. As Moreno fires another long-ranger well over the bar, more substitutes are being readied on the touchline.
Are these with extra-time in mind or can a newcomer yet win this tie?
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
82. It’s the Spanish whose tails are up now.
They win a corner straight from kick-off, and the unflappable Italians are all of a fluster.
Olmo’s delivery draws Donnarumma unnecessarily off his line, and Busquets nearly makes him pay with a looping header towards the empty net.
-
ITALY 1-1 SPAIN
80. Redemption for Alvaro Morata!
Ten minutes from time, and the substitute has his country back on level terms with a gloriously worked goal.
The striker brings the ball forward, plays a smart give and go with Dani Olmo to advance past the Italian defence, and then sends Gianluigi Donnarumma the wrong way with a composed finish.
A brilliant goal for a brilliant game!
