Josh Duggar sentencing live updates – Disgraced 19 Kids and Counting star in court tomorrow after child pornography case

DISGRACED former reality star Josh Duggar is set to be sentenced on Wednesday after he was found guilty of possessing child pornography.

Josh, 34, was found guilty of possessing and receiving child pornography on December 9 after a nearly two-week trial

The former 19 Kids and Counting TV personality previously requested to postpone an April 5 sentencing by 30 days while he remained behind bars in Washington County Jail in Arkansas.

Judge Timothy L Brooks approved the request to move it to May 25.

The oldest Duggar son’s team is requesting that he spends only five years in prison, while the prosecution is asking that he receive the maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars.

Other Duggar family members, including Josh’s wife, Anna Duggar, are expected to attend the sentencing hearing.

  • What was Counting On?

The show about the Duggar family was a spin-off of 19 Kids & Counting, which was axed in 2015 due to Josh’s alleged predatory actions.

19 Kids and Counting was an American reality television show that aired on TLC for seven years until its cancellation in 2015.

The show featured the Duggar family, parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, and their 19 children, nine girls, and ten boys, all of whose names begin with the letter “J.”

  • Josh Duggar faces up to 20 years in prison

The Sun can exclusively reveal from court papers that prosecutors are demanding Josh Duggar receive 20 years in prison.

The Government wrote in the sentencing memorium: “In consideration of the extraordinary efforts Duggar took to obtain and view child sexual abuse material (CSAM), the nature of the CSAM he obtained and viewed, his efforts to conceal his criminal conduct, and his refusal to take accountability for or acknowledge any of his criminal conduct, the Government recommends the Court impose a guideline term of imprisonment of 240 months.”

  • Five years in prison possible

“He is looking at spending five years minimally in prison,” attorney Abtin Mehdizadegan previously told The US Sun of Josh Duggar’s sentencing.

“There’s an exception to that if he you can get relief from some mandatory minimums if you provide substantial assistance to the prosecution, but he certainly did not do that,” Mehdizadegan added.

“He took us to a full trial. So I would expect that he’ll probably get 10 years.”

  • ‘Clear and overwhelming’

Judge Timothy L Brooks previously approved a request to postpone Josh Duggar’s sentencing to May and gave him an additional month.

It has now been scheduled for May 25.

Josh’s legal team filed a motion for an acquittal of the guilty verdict, a new trial, or the dismissal of the possession of child pornography charge.

Prosecutors responded by claiming: “The evidence of the defendant’s guilt is clear and overwhelming.”

Josh’s attorneys fired back by calling the trial and guilty verdict “unconstitutional.”

  • Who is attending the sentencing?

It’s not clear who will be present at the sentencing hearing on Wednesday.

Anna Duggar was present for each day of her husband’s trial back in December, and is expected to attend the hearing, too.

It’s likely that at least one of Josh’s parents may also attend the proceedings this week.

  • December trial

Josh Duggar’s child pornography trial took place in December 2021.

The highly-publicized jury trial lasted two weeks before the jury submitted a guilty verdict on both counts on December 9.

  • What was Josh Duggar found guilty of?

Josh Duggar, 33, was arrested and charged with receiving and possessing child pornography in April 2021.

On December 9, he was found guilty on both counts.
