London coronavirus cases by borough revealed as Covid infections halve in 12 days

ovid-19 confirmed cases are halving in London boroughs in as little as eight days as the virus has been pushed increasingly into retreat, official figures reveal today.

They show that the number of cases in Tower Hamlets fell from 1,863 on January 19 to 924 on the 27th, halving in eight days.

In Hackney and the City of London, cases halved in nine days, from 1,728 on the 18th to 860 on the 27th.

They also halved in ten days from the 17th in Lambeth from 2,255 to 1,107, Greenwich, from 1,995 to 989, Havering from 1,704 to 831, and Croydon from 2,905 to 1,450.

For London as a whole, they have halved in 12 days, from 63,949 on the 15th to 31,822 on the 27th.

Cases have fallen fastest in Tower Hamlets, down 47.4 per cent in the week to January 27, compared to the previous week, 45.4 per cent in Greenwich, 42.1 per cent in Hackney and the City of London, 41 per cent in Croydon, 40.4 per cent in Havering, and 40.2 per cent in Lambeth.

They were down 39.6 per cent in Lewisham and Hounslow, 39.4 per cent in Haringey, 39.3 per cent in Newham and 39.2 per cent in Redbridge, with 23 boroughs seeing cases down by at least a third in a week.

A further 2,851 confirmed cases were announced for London on Monday, a total which continues to drop and was four times as high early last month, though the real number of cases is several times higher, according to studies in the community.

Even though disease levels have fallen dramatically, they still remain high in many areas:

* The highest seven-day rate is in Brent at 508.5 new infections per 100,000 in the week to January 27, followed by Ealing on 500.9.

* Five boroughs still have a seven-day rate above 400, Hounslow, Newham, Barking and Dagenham, Harrow and Hillingdon.

* Seventeen boroughs have a rate above 300.

* Eight now have a rate above 200, with the lowest in Camden at 223.7 new cases per 100,000 a week, followed by Kensington and Chelsea on 230.6, Richmond on 232.8, with Tower Hamlets at 284.5 after a sharp fall.

London hospitals remain under major pressure, with 3,395 Covid-19 patients admitted in the week to January 29, with 423 on that day, down from a peak of 977 on the 6th.

There were 5,654 coronavirus patients in the city’s hospitals as of Sunday, down from a peak of 7,917 on the 18th, with 1,065 so ill that they are on ventilators, a very high figure but now declining in recent days.

A further 58 Covid deaths, within 28 days of people testing positive for the virus, were announced for London on Monday, taking the total so far to 13,473. The daily figure for fatalities announced tends to be lower on a Monday.

The full figures show that in Tower Hamlets there were 924 cases in the week to January 27, down 832 (47.4%) with a seven-day rate of 284.5, in Greenwich 989 cases, down 822 (45.4%) rate 343.5, Hackney and City of London 860 cases, down 625 (42.1%) rate 295.7, Croydon 1450 cases, down 1,006 (41%) rate 375, Havering 831 cases, down 564 (40.4%) rate 320.2, Lambeth 1107 cases, down 743 (40.2%) rate 339.5, Lewisham 996 cases, down 652 (39.6%) rate 325.7, Hounslow 1293 cases, down 846 (39.6%) rate 476.2, Haringey 895 cases, down 582 (39.4%) rate 333.2, Newham 1536 cases, down 993 (39.3%) rate 435, Redbridge 1212 cases, down 781 (39.2%) rate 397.1, Wandsworth 894 cases, down 566 (38.8%) rate 271.2, Barking and Dagenham 967 cases, down 609 (38.6%) rate 454.2, and Enfield 1200 cases, down 747 (38.4%) rate 359.5.

Bexley saw 826 cases, down 508 (38.1%) rate 332.7, Southwark 990 cases, down 604 (37.9%) rate 310.5, Camden 604 cases, down 348 (36.6%) rate 223.7, Islington 637 cases, down 353 (35.7%) rate 262.7, Waltham Forest 1074 cases, down 595 (35.7%) rate 387.7, Ealing 1712 cases, down 941 (35.5%) rate 500.9, Barnet 1430 cases, down 777 (35.2%) rate 361.2, Sutton 754 cases, down 396 (34.4%) rate 365.4, Kensington and Chelsea 360 cases, down 183 (33.7%) rate 230.6, Bromley 1005 cases, down 484 (32.5%) rate 302.4, Brent 1677 cases, down 803 (32.4%) rate 508.5, Merton 757 cases, down 349 (31.6%) rate 366.5, Harrow 1056 cases, down 459 (30.3%) rate 420.4, Westminster 677 cases, down 276 (29%) rate 259.1, Hammersmith and Fulham 645 cases, down 215 (25%) rate 348.4, Hillingdon 1441 cases, down 467 (24.5%) rate 469.6, Richmond 461 cases, down 125 (21.3%) rate 232.8, and Kingston 562 cases, down 144 (20.4%) rate 316.6.
