Prince Philip funeral updates – Harry’s ‘deeply personal note’ revealed as Charles privately grieves Duke in Wales

THE DUKE of Sussex wrote Prince Charles a “deeply personal note” ahead of his homecoming for Prince Philip’s funeral.

Prince Harry touched base with Charles before he returned to the UK for the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, where he was reunited with his family for the first time since he left royal life last year.

Sources close to Harry said he has been “forced to write letters” after a “complete communication breakdown” with his father, it emerged yesterday.

The notes are thought to have “outlined his reasons for leaving” his position to live in California with mum-to-be Meg and their one-year-old son Archie, while promising to “respect the institution”.

Meanwhile, Charles is said to have headed to a Welsh bolthole to privately grieve the loss of his father, the Duke of Edinburgh.

Reports on Sunday claimed future kings Charles and William were set to “hold a summit on the future” of the Monarchy and discuss plans of a slimmed-down monarchy over the next two generations.

It comes after the Queen paid an emotional farewell to her late husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, during his funeral on the weekend.

Due to Covid restrictions, the Queen was forced to sit alone inside Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel as she led the Royal Family in mourning at the funeral of her beloved husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.

And after Saturday’s service, Kate Middleton acted as a peacemaker between Prince Harry and William as they shared a private chat while walking away from Philip’s emotional funeral.

The tender reunion after more than a year apart, came after they stood apart to walk behind their grandfather’s coffin, and were sat separately in the chapel.

Dressed in a face mask and in sombre black, it was the first time the Queen, grieving for her devoted companion of 73 years, has been officially seen in public since Philip died eight days ago.

  • LEAKED CONVERSATIONS (CONTINUED…)

Vanity Fair claims William spent some “time alone” with Harry walking around the Queen’s private gardens after the service on Saturday.

It also claims Prince Charles is “desperate” for a reconciliation with his son while William is more “hesitant”. A source added: “William needs to know he can trust Harry and that private conversations will stay private.”

The source also said William and other family members “have some very strong feelings about some of the things Harry and Meghan said on Oprah”.

They added: “Things need to be talked through, but this was not the occasion and everyone respected that.

“It’s going to take more than a wake to sort things out, but this is hopefully a start.”

  • LEAKED CONVERSATIONS

It comes after reports that Prince William needs to know any future talks with his brother will stay private after Gayle King revealed their family chats weren’t productive.

According to Vanity Fair, one family friend said Harry was met with frostiness from his relatives after the 90-minute explosive chat.

It is thought the family were upset that Meghan’s pal Ms King revealed Harry had spoken to his brother and Prince Charles after the interview – but that the talks were “unproductive”.

One source said: “Harry was out in the cold after Oprah and then when details of private family conversations were leaked to Gayle King it was the final straw.

“Some family members cannot believe what he has done, but there is a feeling that with the Duke’s death and the family coming together, conversations need to be had.”

  • QUEEN ‘NOT IN MOOD FOR HARRY SUMMIT’

THE Queen is “not in the mood” for a summit with Prince Harry and William this week as she “hates confrontation”, a royal expert has claimed.

Ingrid Seward, author of Prince Philip Revealed, said the monarch’s children have a “tough time” getting her to talk about “anything other than dogs or horses”.

Prince Charles will lead talks on the future of the Royal Family following Philip’s death, but has made clear that William must be consulted for each stage as any significant changes will be incorporated into his son’s reign.

It came after the Prince of Wales held private talks with his two sons following Saturday’s service, which saw Harry and Will reunited face-to-face for the first time in a year.

The feuding brothers, who were “united by grief” after Philip’s death, spoke after the ceremony and were seen walking side by side away from St George’s Chapel – having been deliberately separated during the procession an hour earlier.

  • PRINCE WILLIAM BLASTS ‘DAMAGE’ THE EUROPEAN SUPER LEAGUE WOULD CAUSE

PRINCE William has blasted the European Super League for the damage it would cause to the entire football community.

The Duke of Cambridge, who is also President of the Football Association, said that he shared the same concerns of fans about the new league.

This is the first time that the Prince has spoken out since his grandfather, Prince Philip‘s, funeral on Saturday.

“Now, more than ever, we must protect the entire football community – from the top level to the grassroots – and the values of competition and fairness at its core,” the Duke of Cambridge wrote to Twitter today.

“I share the concerns of fans about the proposed Super League and the damage it risks causing to the game we love.”

  • HARRY WROTE CHARLES ‘DEEPLY PERSONAL NOTE (CONTINUED…)

It was a move that sent cracks through their kinship and has left their relationship “extremely frosty”.

“Truth be told, Harry didn’t really know what to expect before he came home, which is why he reached out before seeing everyone,” the royal source revealed.

“He wrote a deeply personal note to his dad to try and set things straight but tensions are still running high and things haven’t exactly ironed out the way he had hoped. There had been a kind of unspoken agreement between everyone to park whatever has been on each person’s mind, and solely concentrate on supporting the Queen ahead of Prince Philip’s funeral.

“The feeling inside the camp was that it wasn’t the time nor the place to go over things, especially at such an emotional time for everybody involved.”

Harry’s suggestion that Charles and his brother Prince William were “trapped” in the institution and “don’t get to leave” like he did, “outraged” them both according to palace insiders.

  • PRINCE HARRY WROTE CHARLES ‘DEEPLY PERSONAL NOTE’ AHEAD OF HOMECOMING FOR PHILIP’S FUNERAL

THE DUKE of Sussex wrote Prince Charles a “deeply personal note” ahead of his homecoming for Philip’s funeral – but the father and son have not patched up their fractured relationship.

Prince Harry touched base with Charles before he returned to the UK, where he would be reunited with his family for the first time since he left royal life last year.

Their relationship had “hit rock bottom” in the wake of Harry and his wife Meghan Markle’s explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey – while his grandfather lay seriously ill in hospital. Charles is still “very hurt” by the appearance, which rocked the royal family amid allegations of bullying and racism, the Daily Mirror reports.

Sources close to the Duke said he has been “forced to write letters” after a “complete communication breakdown” with his father.

The notes are said to have “outlined his reasons for leaving” his position to live in California with mum-to-be Meg and their one-year-old son Archie, while promising to “respect the institution”.

  • QUEEN DROVE HERSELF TO QUIET SPOT (CONTINUED..)

Yesterday, a day after the funeral, Queen Elizabeth II drove to Frogmore Gardens – a place she loves and where she often walks her dogs.

The spot is just a few minutes from Frogmore Cottage, where Prince Harry has been staying after travelling to the UK for his grandfather’s funeral.

Sources say visiting Frogmore regularly will help the Queen deal with her grief after Prince Philip‘s death.

The gardens are one of her favourite parts of the estate to walk her puppies, dorgi Fergus and corgi Muick.

According to sources, she is likely to drive to Frogmore on her birthday too to enjoy nature and walk her dogs.

  • QUEEN ‘DROVE HERSELF TO BELOVED SPOT FOR QUIET CONTEMPLATION’ ON DAY AFTER PRINCE PHILIP’S FUNERAL

THE Queen drove herself to her beloved spot in Windsor for some quiet contemplation the day after Prince Philip’s funeral.

  • PRINCE HARRY HOLDS TALKS WITH WILLIAM AND CHARLES (CONTINUED…)

“Obviously after the worldwide fallout of the Oprah interview trust has to be rebuilt,” a senior royal insider told the Mail Online.

“There was no official wake after the funeral, but Charles, William and Harry took the opportunity to speak and catch up face to face after many months apart.

“They were only able to spend a short time together outdoors given Covid restrictions and also without staff, including senior courtiers, overhearing what was being said.

“It was important to Charles and William that they were both there together.

“It means nothing spoken about can be misconstrued in the future.”

  • PRINCE HARRY HOLDS TALKS WITH WILLIAM AND CHARLES AFTER PAIR ASKED TO MEET HIM TOGETHER SO ‘WORDS CAN’T BE MISCONSTRUED’

PRINCE Harry held talks with William and Charles after the pair asked to meet him together so that words could not be misconstrued, a royal insider has said.

The Duke of Sussex arrived back to the UK last week to attend his grandfather, Prince Philip’s, funeral on Saturday where he saw William for the first time in a year.

They were seen walking solemnly behind their grandfather’s coffin – separated by their cousin Peter Phillips – as the world watched on.

The face-to-face meeting was held on the grounds of Windsor Castle following the service for the Duke of Edinburgh over the weekend.

A royal source said that Prince William and his father Charles met together with Harry to make sure that everyone fully understood each other.

  • QUEEN’S NEW CORGI PUPS WILL HELP ‘DISTRACT’ HER ON HER 95TH BIRTHDAY

On Wednesday, the monarch will mark her 95th birthday – but can only meet those outside her household in the open air due to Covid regulations.

A royal expert said her two new puppies will make the monarch “distracted” from grief after losing Prince Philip.

Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty Magazine, said the monarch’s lively new companions, as well as her elderly dorgi Candy, would provide comfort.

He said: “The thinking was enough was enough, and that she was getting too old for new dogs and who would look after them when she was gone.

“But clearly that decision was reversed and, as it turned out, it probably is very fortuitous. I think it’s useful to have these puppies in her life now as way of a distraction.”

  • EDWARD AND SOPHIE COULD BE SUBSTITUTES FOR MEGHAN AND HARRY AFTER THEY STEPPED BACK

CHARLES and William, with the assistance of the Queen, will decide on which members of the family will retain senior royal roles and what they should do.

Prince Edward, and his wife Sophie could be subsitutes for Meghan and Harry after they stepped back from their royal roles.

The couple maintained a notable presence in the lead-up to Philip’s funeral – but their prior engagements could scupper plans for them to stand in.

They carried out 544 royal duties between them last year before the pandemic, meaning they will have little time spare to take on the Sussexes and Prince Andrew’s duties.

As well as Philip’s patronages going spare, the royals must redistribute the hundreds of patronages and military titles of the three absent members – if Andrew’s retirement amid the Jeffery Epstein saga is permanent.

  • CHARLES ‘DESPERATE FOR RECONCILIATION’ WITH HARRY BUT WILLS ‘CAUTIOUS’

Prince Charles is reportedly “desperate for a reconciliation” with his son Harry – but William is feeling more cautious and hesitant after the brothers’ Megxit rift.

Harry, 36, and William, 38, met face-to-face for the first time in a year at Prince Philip‘s funeral at Windsor on Saturday.

A source told Vanity Fair that Charles is “desperate” to reconcile with Harry.

William, however, is reportedly feeling more cautious – hoping that he can restore his relationship with Harry over time.

The source reportedly said: “William needs to know he can trust Harry and that private conversations will stay private.”

  • PHILIP ‘TOLD OFF DIANA FOR HIDING IN KITCHEN’

THE Queen’s former chef has revealed how Prince Philip once told Princess Diana off for hiding in the kitchen.

Darren McGrady, 58, who was the personal chef to the Queen in the 1990s, paid tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh on YouTube.

Darren recalled: “He had a great sense of humour too, I remember Princess Diana sat in the kitchen, sat on top of the freezer and she was just picking away at lychees and she was chatting about the theatre and Phantom of the Opera.

“Suddenly the Duke walked in and she turned and said, ‘Oh, you’ve caught me.’

“And he said, ‘Oh, you’re not here to discuss the barbecue tonight are you?’ and she just looked horrified she said ‘I wouldn’t know where to start.’”

  • PRINCE PHILIP THOUGHT HARRY WAS A ‘GOOD MAN’

Prince Philip thought of Harry as a “good man” but didn’t believe he and Meghan Markle were right to leave the royal family, a pal claims.

The Duke of Edinburgh is said to have felt “sorry” over the fallout from the Megxit saga and regretted his grandson’s decision to step down.

But according to a friend of Philip, he ultimately accepted Harry’s decision, saying: “It’s his life”.

Gyles Brandeth told the Daily Mail: “The Duke of Edinburgh was not pleased, nor did he believe that Harry and Meghan were doing the right thing either for the country or for themselves.”

  • DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S FUNERAL WAS A SAD DAY FOR MEGHAN MARKLE

Meghan Markle’s pal says Prince Philip’s funeral is a “sad day for her” and the service was “very much on her mind” as she watched from the US.

Omid Scobie said the Duchess of Sussex, 39, would be grieving as she “has also lost a family member” – as the nation united to remember the Duke of Edinburgh.

He said: “Although Meghan isn’t here, she is of course supporting Harry….her mind is very much on the situation over here.

“We know that she’s supporting Harry in this very difficult week for him, but she’ll also be sad because this is also the loss of a family member for her.

“She grew very close to the queen and Prince Philip over the recent years. It was probably her strongest relationship within the family and those relations then get smaller this week.  It’ll be a sad day for her.”

  • THE SUN’S ROYAL PHOTOGRAPHER DEMANDS HARRY AND WILLIAM END ‘STUPID FEUD’

Prince Harry and William should end their “stupid” feud immediately, Arthur Edwards has demanded.

The Sun Royal photographer said the fallout had gone on “too long” and it was about time they patched things up after their grandfather’s funeral.

Edwards, who saw the Royal Family’s “raw emotion” as they bid farewell to the Duke of Edinburgh on Saturday from just yards away, said the best thing to come from it was the brothers “talking again”.

He told Lorraine this morning: “The best out of it is William and Harry talking again. That feud has got to stop, it’s stupid it’s carrying on, too long now.”

The presenter responded: “You need to bash their heads together.”

  • HARRY ‘FELT TERRIBLE ABOUT LEAVING MEGHAN’

PRINCE Harry is desperate to return to pregnant Meghan – and feels “terrible” about leaving her behind, a pal said.

The Duke of Sussex returned to the UK for Prince Philip’s funeral, where he came face-to-face with his family for the first time since he moved to LA.

It was also the first meeting since he and Meghan’s Oprah interview aired early last month.

And while it was thought he could stay for the Queen’s birthday on Wednesday, a friend now says he’ll soon return home.

The pal told Vanity Fair he is making arrangements to leave the UK as soon as possible.
