The step for making these changes is to help make the plates more readable for the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras that are becoming more common across the country.
What we currently know is that the DVLA frequently uses technology to apprehend lawbreakers and detect violators.
The new number plate design, in theory, would make this task much easier for the authorities. Experts also point out that the new number plates will also have to include the supplier's business name and zip code, along with the name of the number plate manufacturer, in order to match the new BS AU 145e standard.
